Christmas Flame (Flame # 4.5) by Caris Roane
Synopsis: On Christmas Eve, vampire Officer Kyle Drake has finally persuaded the shy wolf shifter, Verena, to go on a first date. His plans include a little mistletoe and a lot of seduction. But when a call comes in that a teenage girl has been abducted and Kyle and Verena go in pursuit, he fears the dangers of their world will once again force Verena back into her no-dating-ever mode…
Review: A cute, quick story with a warm holiday inspired ending. The two main characters were developed and the plot moved quickly. The 60 page story had the obvious rushed feeling of the relationship, but the references to the fact that they have known each other for some time and the story starts up with their first official date, made the rushed sense acceptable. I loved Drake’s internal dialogue about lighting the Christmas tree and candles when things seem to be going his way, then when things seemed to go down hill on the date he mentally turned off the tree, blew out the candles, and trashed the poinsettia, only to have his hope rekindled. He then mentally resets the scene at his home, which awaited after the date. It was funny and entertaining. Overall, the story was good.
