My candidate for this week and for my third post I picked another scene from Destined for an Early Grave (Book 4). This is a funny scene. Mencheres is the oldest vampire, so everyone looks to him for guidance. He is known for his proper speech and he doesn’t say anything without thinking it through first. He is a careful leader. In this scene he is called out on his carefulness and his response is just perfect. When I read this scene I busted out laughing. If you haven’t read any of the Night Huntress books, then the humor might be lost, but it is still cute.
“Then you remember the dream,” Mencheres stated. “That bodes ill.”
The fear of that made my reply snappy. “Hey, Walks Like An Egyptian, how about for once you drop the formal stuff and talk like you live in the twenty-first century?”
“The shit’s gonna splatter, start buggin’, yo,” Mencheres responded instantly.
I stared at him, then burst out laughing, which was highly inappropriate considering the very grave warning he’d just conveyed.
