SynopsisMastyr Seth craves his shifter bodyguard, Lorelei, but with her close connection to the enemy, how can he ever trust her?

He’s lived a solitary life and needs no one…

Mastyr Vampire Seth craves Lorelei, his new bodyguard, but he has a hands-off policy with those under his command. However, the sexy glint in her eye, as well as her wolf-shifter ways, keeps him in a fevered state. He’s lived a life of enforced solitude as Mastyr of Walvashorr Realm, but when the enemy arrives, ready to invade his land, he must rely on his bodyguard more than he ever dreamed possible. So much proximity breaks through his resistance and he takes the woman, marking her in a shocking shifter way that overturns his careful, analytical world. But when her connection to the enemy puts his realm in danger, how can he embrace a serious relationship with her?

She’s loved him from the first moment she saw him…

Lorelei guards Seth night after night, her heart on fire. She’s loved him from the time she snuck into his workout room and watched him go through his rigid exercise routine. Now serving as his bodyguard, she wants to take her relationship with the Mastyr of Walvashorr to the next level, but Seth holds back. That he desires her comes through in his wicked mossy scent, which in turn ignites her inner wolf. When he finally gives in to his own cravings and makes his move, she shows him how hot shifter-love can be. But will she ever be more than just his bodyguard?

ReviewThe story of Seth and Lorelei was sweet and enjoyable.  There were no complicated conflicts or intense emotional highs and lows, rather it was a relaxing read that moved quickly and wasn’t ever dull.  There were no dry spots in the plot or conflict.  The villain is Lorelei’s mother again, the Ancient Fae, and Seth and Lorelei do battle her with a large contingency of shifters. Lorelei is a unique character, she is the only one to be a little bit vampire, a good portion shifter, a good portion fae, with some wraith thrown into the mix.  She is powerful and has been on the run, hiding from her mom for a large portion of her adult life.  She is a loner due to her constant moving around to stay out of her mother’s clutches. Seth is a mastyr vampire who is over a 1000 years old, and for the majority of those years he has also remained a loner.  Lorelei is entrusted with Seth’s safety by the queen, she is to be his bodyguard, which Seth doesn’t understand because Lorelei has absolutely no training for that kind of role.  But he will not go against the queen’s request, so he watches over her.

Lorelei has been attracted to Seth from the very beginning and has hid her feelings from him because she knows he is a loner and would not appreciate her affections, or so she thinks.  Seth is attracted to her, but also keeps his distance out of duty and respect.  When they do come together it is explosive.  It comes out that Lorelei is also a blood rose, Seth’s blood rose, and once that becomes apparent there isn’t anything that is going to keep these two away from each other.  Of course the typical events take place, Seth refuses to bond with her because of a betrayal in his past, and it takes losing Lorelei to wake him up to the realization that he does love her, and she isn’t going to betray him, ever.  The battle at the end is fast paced and entertaining.  Overall, it was enjoyable, but not my favorite Blood Rose book in the series, that I think still goes to Book 3, Embrace the Mystery.

I must say though, that I loved watching Lorelei provoke Seth every single time.  She knew exactly what to say to get him to lose control and the passion to ignite.  It was fun to watch.

Favorite Quotes 1: I only have one moment that I consider my favorite, and that is when Seth realizes he loves Lorelei. It is quite beautiful.  I title it “He loved her”

He knew then what she’d done; Lorelei had made a bargain with the ancient fae. He knew it as surely as if the words had been spoken aloud in his cave-like prison.

Lorelei had sacrificed herself and she’d done it to save his life. This was the truth of her character.

Another powerful wave of emotion gripped his chest. How many times did Lorelei have to prove her loyalty or her character before he found her worthy?

He’d kept himself removed from her, even though Queen Rosamunde herself had sent Lorelei to guard him. That alone should have alerted him that he could trust her, that he could bring her into his life without fearing she’d betray him.

Instead, he’d held back at a critical moment, even after she’d saved his life when Margetta had fired away at his tree house.

And now Lorelei was gone, caught in the grip of her mother’s evil hands, and what would her future be? Would she be forced now to enter into an invictus wraith-pair bonding? Would she be used for even more experimentation by her parents? Would she become the weapon that her latent power suggested she could become?

Almost completely healed, Seth rose slowly to his feet. Night had almost come, just a few minutes more now and he could leave the safety of the waterfall.

But he knew only one thing. He needed to find Lorelei and bring her home.

This was her home, with him, beside him, whether wolf or fae or even wraith. Lorelei belonged with him and he with her.

He’d been a fool to let his past experiences with Kristen determine his relationship with Lorelei. He’d allowed Kristen’s betrayal to rule his life all this time, never once letting anything remotely like love or affection come near him again.

As he waited for the last of the light to disappear and glanced around the dark gray stone shallow cave, he finally admitted the truth he’d been avoiding, that he’s fallen in love with Lorelei.

He loved her.
